There are many questions that can be asked about all of the characters from this story, but i think the most controversial one would be "Is Ed a good father to Chris?". Ed is put in a very difficult situation, raising a child with a syndrome like Aspergers is probably the most challenging obstacle to face as a parent, and Ed has to do it alone. Although it seems like Ed betrayed Christopher by telling him that his mother had passed away, his situation is complicated and explaining to Christopher that his mother had left them for another man could be very confusing to someone with Aspergers. I think that Ed did betray Christopher by not telling him the truth. Although his reaction to his mother leaving for another man is unpredictable he deserves to know the truth. Chris should have had the option whether he would want to stay in contact with his mother or not, this was not a decision that Ed should have made for him. I believe that Chris will never be able to fully trust his father which is extremely important. Trust will always be an issue in there relationship.

That question arose a lot of heat in our group. Would you hide a secret from someone that you know could mess them up in a sensitive mindset? The fact of the matter is, he most important life lesson I've learned and which is backed up in this story is not to trust anybody. Could Chris of trusted his mother not to leave him?
